2026 Regatta Sail Racing - Results
![]()
The weather was fantastic for the Regatta on 1st & 2nd August this year with sunshine and warmth. There was enough wind for the sail racing both days and it was great seeing young sailors from My Blue Pass taking part once again. On Saturday we could have done with a little more wind at times for the Pursuit Race, and on Sunday we could have done with a little less wind as the conditions were challenging, especially for the smaller craft - sailors are generally never happy!
Officer of the Day Martin Pavey has provided the commentary on the racing both days along with the very important results for posterity:
Saturday Pursuit Race
A glorious day on the water with a challenging wind.
For this year a longer Pursuit race was introduced to provide for greater granularity in the starting sequence, with slower boats starting first and sailing for 2hrs 15 minutes, while the fastest boats started 45 minutes later and had to catch them before the finish time (wherever they were on the course).
With holes in the wind and the direction changing randomly through 300 degrees it was thought that the later starters would benefit as the sea breeze appeared later in the afternoon. Although the wind did fill in as expected the number of holes and becalmed areas of the course seemed to affect all competitors at some point.
The start times reflect the performance of the boats considering past performance and also a tidal and wind factor (a secret art retained by the Race Officer) and it was pleasing to see the first two boats only seconds apart (a Micro/Gem and a Classic dinghy) and the first 10 boats on the same leg of the course as finish time was called.
The racing was followed by post-race chat, drinks and food in the Marquee with competitors and supporters and a Pursuit Race prize-giving.
Our thanks to all who helped make the day a success both on and off the water.

Sunday Class Racing
Sunday's racing followed the usual format of categorised class starts (4 in number) staring every 5 minutes and this followed the morning's fun and games on the beach and in the mud.
It was another fine sunny day with a steady easterly breeze around 15mph. This gave perfect conditions for beats to windward going down river and square runs up river interspersed with cross river reaching.
A few boats showed discretion in not using spinnakers after either a broach or two or following gear failure. Once again the racing was followed by a prize-giving and a BBQ.
