Stour Sailing Club’s first Gig William Rose arrived at the Club on October 2016 and was the 17th Gig to be built since 2012.
The first 19 Gigs were constructed of cold moulded mahogany Ply, and Gigs number 20 and beyond are constructed of GRP but fitted out with wood.
The Club’s second Harker’s Yard Gig Hunter arrived at the Club in March 2020 is the 22nd Gig to be built.
As at the end of 2024 there are now 24 Gigs being rowed at Sailing and rowing clubs all around the Essex Coast and Estuaries, and regularly racing.
The main racing season is in the winter between October and March with the race programme coordinated by the Harker’s Yard Gig Association and events organised and run by member Clubs.
The current 2024-25 winter race series is the 11th, and comprises 10 events. The event started once again with our home event here at Stour Sailing Club on 6th October.
