Sunday 17 July from 10am Mud Sports and Children’s Beach Takeover

What better way could there be to spend a July Sunday morning than on the beach?  The tide won’t be  high until 3:45 and until 1pm there will be plenty of mud to go along with the sand!  Refreshments including breakfast rolls will be available from the Marquee from 9.30am so come along and find a space to watch the fun – or better still come along and join in the fun.

While the grown ups are enjoying the mud there will be the traditional children’s takeover of the beach with beach games and a mass tug of war.  The morning’s activities will be overseen as usual by Neptune.

Tug of War

We are not short of mud at Manningtree and the tug of war in the mud across the Hard is a key part of the Sunday Morning Regatta Fun! There is a competition for men’s and women’s team both overseen by Neptune himself.  The Tug of War is open to teams of up to eight from local businesses, community groups and sports clubs and is always hotly contested.

The last time we were able to hold the competition in 2019 teams from Rose Builders took the honours in both the men’s and women’s pulls – who will it be in 2022?

Do it for Charity, do it for Fun or just Because  – We can promise you that you won’t forget doing the Manningtree Mud Sports Tug of War.  The rules for the competition are in the link below.

Tug of War Entries are £10 per Team – to be paid at Registration on the Day prior to the Tug of War Start.  All Teams must be at the SSC Marquee on Quay Street by 9.30 am on Sunday 17th July ready for the start of the mud sports at 10am.

If you are planning to enter a Team – it will help Neptune to plan the event if you can let us know in advance of the Day

To let us know that you are planning to enter a Team you can  send us an email: regatta2022@stoursailingclub.co.uk  or better still you can fill in a Tug of War Entry Form and email it back to us

Make sure that you read the Tug of War Rules

Race Across the River

Our activities kick off at 10am with the race across the estuary – down the Hard, across the channel, round a mark and back. Come and have a go! This is the race made famous by Griff Rhys Jones in his ‘Search for the Mersea Native’.  You will need to come prepared – shoes are essential and they will get very wet and muddy so don’t wear anything that you will want to wear again – and it is a good idea to ‘gaffer tape’ them up so that they do not come off your feet!

Will you have the Glory of being the first back to Neptune or be awarded the Lanterne for the most ‘luxurious’ use of the course?

Children’s Beach Takeover

The Children’s Beach Takeover has been much missed over the last two years.  But it is back for 2022 with fun games and races on the sand and the now traditional children’s tug of war.  All are welcome to join in the fun – with parents, grandparents and care givers there to cheer them on!
