Good Afternoon

But it hasn’t!

Don’t mention the weather !!! but it is due for change next week.

Its looking good though with plenty of breeze for the Felixstowe Regatta weekend for all our SSC entrants that we wish to do well and have a great fun weekend.

The weekend starts tonight with a change of Bar person on board tonight giving Richard a rest, Mel is in attendance and serving the drinks and hopefully will have a slightly better choice of background music for our visits, so come on down and show her some support.

Another sign of summer presence is the sight of the marquee erecting which has appeared this week now we have the compound cleared and free of dinghies and canoes. Great job done with the team done swiftly and effortlessly so I’m told without any issues, so well done and thank you, don’t know how you did it and avoid the showers. (Not singling any one out here but good that you were all working together Gus 😊)

Please note that this area is for our events, members, and their family’s only and not for general public picnics, it is up to us to control the security in this area and ensure that this doesn’t get misused. While talking security it is also imperative that we remind ourselves of the need to close compound and pontoon gateways to avoid the intrusion of non-members who may be scouting around for items to take that are not theirs. I notice we have several outboards left on dinghy’s now in the compound which appear ripe pickings so beware although we have CCTV, they don’t care they will take it if they want it.

I haven’t updated you recently on the Suffolk and Essex Marine Crimes lately because there hasn’t been any thing locally reported, so we don’t want to have to be included in the June report if we can avoid it. So please don’t put temptation there if its not needed as it might not only be yours that goes irrespective if its insured or not.

The list for WHAT Wivenhoe House Afternoon Tea on Tuesday 11th June 1-30-200 till 4pm @27.50 per head, has closed but still room for a cheeky 2-3 people that could be squeezed in. Please contact Louise direct should you wish to be added and she will advise on how to make the payment for what’s hoped to be a very pleasant and social warm afternoon.

Next coffee and cake will be on the 19thJune and will be the first of the year in the marquee again weather permitting no nominated charity this time, but any donations will go to the club hot beverage replenishment fund. (CHBRF).

Let’s talk Sailing , the date is the15thJune for the 21mile race pencil it in and more details to follow start at 9.00 Ballast Hill and finish Wrabness where I believe there is a BBQ being planned ashore.

Now Rowing …. Slight change on the management front Caroline after all her hard work through the years is relaxing her reigns from a club perspective. She won’t be out of the scenes but will still be more focussed on the HYGA overall than the club stuff. She has handed that over and as committee decision to Keith Paxman who is now Rowing Secretary as the communication link between the

Rowing membership contingent and the club management committee. With the growth in this particular aspect of the club it was decided that they need to have further representation because of the numbers now involved. So, thanks to Caroline for all her past work and her continuance to be included in the subcommittee, and thanks to Keith for volunteering to take on the post. We wish you well and look forward to working with you.

New members this month we have 5.

Peter Powell, Timothy Miller, Peter Gleeson, William Clarke, Grace Firmin. We also congratulate them in becoming members of the Oldest Auspicious Established Sailing Club in Manningtree and look forward to seeing them actively around the club and out on the water. Please make yourself known to them should you see them about.

It appears that the upriver dredging works have almost been completed for now so lest hope that the scum and the water get back soon to reasonable clarity and stops leaving the muddy residue all over our white hulls and along our water lines.

That’s all for me for another week then.

Stay well and safe.

Take care.

Commodore Colin
