Hi Everyone
Not much to report on the local racing front, with the exception that we had a few members out last week enjoying the breeze and sunshine in their dinghy’s. All a bit sporadic and not big scale but they were there and had some fun. Thanks to those that assisted. There is no racing this weekend.
Ken Ward and crew are all safely back from the delivery trip from the south coast and his new boat sits on the Pontoon until new chain is put on his mooring.
As a reminder it is important when and if bringing craft onto the pontoon or into the compound that it is courteous to arrange and liaise with the club mooring and compound managers who are responsible for the efficient operations of these assets and to make sure the spacings are adequately used. This does save a lot of late and last-minute conversations in tracking down owners and the managers can get incredibly grouchy which is not normally within their nature.
One warning notice is for all craft coming into the hard or the pontoons is to persistently be cautious and on the lookout for swimmers and children in the water on your approach.
Also, if using the pontoons and the compounds the gates are there also to be closed to stop people being in there that shouldn’t and should be checked and secured by the last person to leave.
Lastly, we had what I shall explain as a small incident where a person leapt from a craft and slipped and fell hitting his head when entering the water. Please take care when alighting your crafts on the hard , we have a lot of weed currently around and water which can inevitably make the surfaces slippery. I don’t want to put another sign up stating the obvious and I’m sure that you are all conscious of the fact of the risks and possibilities , so BEWARE Please, and you know that you do use it at your own risk!!
I don’t currently have a name as the volunteer for Friday evening bar session but hopefully someone will step in, some of the would be’s stand in’s will be attending an invitation to a local display of art works. Maybe they will also call in afterwards??
Haven’t much to report about the Pride Day but seems the town was brought to a standstill on occasions with lots of visitors to the area with fun and games on the beach area and the Fire Station. The use of the club marquee was at last minute not required.
For those that are local classic boat and one design solo sailors, the news top stories is of Duncan Lougee for anyone who may know him, who has gone and been missing for the past 8 days with his yacht “The Minke” a 25ft Folk boat FB597 which was bound for Baltimore on the Cork coast via the Scilly Isles from Plymouth. Our thoughts are hopefully that he is found safe and with his family during this time of uncertainty.
So, another Sunday this week where I have nothing to report of any other events, and again think we all need some time to have a break and play with our own crafts and enjoy some time relaxing on the water. This is while we think about the planning required for our own regatta on Aug 5th and 6th so save the date and don’t forget to put your name on the board to volunteer and assist that weekend or tell Caroline directly, please.
However, the Bar will be open for lunch times only.
