When we are out on the water we try to remember to take photographs to share and to remind us of the fun that we have together both in social rowing and in more serious rowing and racing.

Sport England Funding
Since we began organised Club Rowing at Stour Sailing Club at the beginning of 2016 we have been very grateful for lottery funding support from Sport England through three £10,000 grants which have part funded the two Club Harker’s Yard Gigs William Rose and Hunter and our Second Safety Boat. Details of the three lotter funded projects can be found below.
‘Rowing on’ Project – 2020
In January 2020 the Club was awarded a third £10,000 grant from Sport England towards the purchase of a second Harker’s Yard Gig as part of our ‘Rowing On’ project to “increase capacity, enable us to expand low cost access to coastal rowing and get more people active on the water.” The project was due to run from 1st May 2020 to 31 April 2021.
However, 2020 and the Covid19 pandemic had other plans. We picked up our lovely new Gig Hunter on 20th March. Hunter is named for Ian Hunter Edmund and his family donated funds towards our project. On 23 March we tucked up both Hunter and William Rose under cover to wait out the first lockdown.
We were finally able to get Hunter on to the water at the very end of August 2020, and after a couple of further lock downs we have been back rowing since April 2021.
Hunter’s formal launch had to wait until October 2021 as part of our home Harker’s Yard Race series event, and the first for almost two years due to the pandemic.

During the project period we rowed when we could and accepted when we could not. We even had some new rowers out on the water. However, we achieved a lot in the year despite the constraints, and we were pleased that Sport England signed the project off as complete at the end of April 2021 in line with the original project plan.

‘Safely Does It’ Project – 5 December 2017 – 30 November 2018
In November 2017 the Club was awarded a second £10,000 grant from Sport England towards the purchase of a second Safety Boat as part of our Safely Does It project, to help us to “sustain and further increase participation in Coastal Rowing whilst still supporting activities such as dinghy and cruiser sailing and racing”. Our new second safety boat, an XS Ribs Five Metre Orange Rib with a 60HP Mariner Engine plus a new Snipe Trailer was ordered in January 2018 and was formally launched at our ‘Push the Boat Out’ Event on Bank Holiday Monday 28 May in time for the summer sailing and rowing season.
The Sport England Funded ‘Safely Does it’ project ran from December 2017 to November 2018 and we kept a Club Rowing log for the year long project with details and pictures of from all the Club Rows and Races over the year. The log aims to show the fun and activity beyond the numbers.

Coastal Rowing Project 1 June 2016 to 31 May 2017
In May 2016 the Club was awarded a £10,000 grant from Sport England towards the purchase of a Harker’s Yard Gig as part of a Coastal Rowing project to “expand participation through supporting formal, organised “Club” coastal rowing to provide low cost, open access opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in rowing and keep rowing”. The Rose Family have also donated additional funding to the Club for the rowing project in memory of Bill Rose for whom the Gig is named.
The Sport England Funded ‘Coastal Rowing’ project ran from 1 June 2016 to 31 May 2017.
