Regatta 2022 took place in amazing weather – lovely sunshine with a bit of a breezy. Lovely for sailing, but also good for Kayaking, Rowing, Paddle Boarding and Traditional Sculling.
We we pleased to be joined by Stand Up Fun Paddle Boards who ran ‘have a go’ sessions from the beach on both afternoons of the regatta. The Clubs two Harker’s Yard Gigs William Rose and Hunter took part in some friendly race sessions on Saturday afternoon and then ran a ‘have a go’ session to get people out on the water. On Sunday afternoon people were able to ‘have a go’ at Kayaking. And on both days there was a demonstration of traditional sculling and a chance to have a go. On Sunday afternoon there was also a fun Kayak and Paddleboard race.
Rowing
The Club’s two Harker’s Yard Gigs William Rose and Hunter engaged in some ‘friendly’ races on Saturday of the Regatta. The races were in short course form so that spectators on the beach could watch the action. The race started from the Club Start line in front of the Starting Hut and the Gigs raced down to a turning mark at the end of the Walls and back across the line to finish.
The racing was very close.
The first race featured a mixed crew (two women and two men) in each Gig.
First: Hunter in 11:00 minutes
Second William Rose 11:10 minutes
The Second Race featured a men’s crew in William Rose and a Women’s Crew in Hunter.
First: William Rose in 11:17 minutes
Second: Hunter in 11:18 minutes
It was almost too close to call and the women’s crew in Hunter got the bragging rights for that one even though they came second across the line!

Kayak and Paddle Board Race
On Sunday afternoon members of the public were invited to join in a fun kayak and paddle board race. Some people brought along their own craft, others went from ‘having a go’ with borrowed craft to their very first race!
Kevin Massey – first paddleboarder home in his first race.
Mario the winner of the kayak race in his first race, with Russel who ran the Kayak have a go
Sculling
Traditional sculling is not something that you see every day – but it was demonstrated both days as regatta. Standing up with an oar over the stern of the boat, looking backwards and moving the boat forwards!
