Hi and I hope everyone is having a good week so far! This is something to read in between showers.
The blog last week was getting a bit long, and I did not mention some items that were important.
For those that have been lucky or unlucky to been on the Stour water or in it, the water has gone from being incredibly clear to a very dark brown silted messy colour. This has been reported to the environmental agency help line and they are looking into this. It doesn’t appear to be sewerage but will be tested for as well as the possible discharge of other wastes that could possibly be finding its way into our local waters. It appears to be from White Bridge and Brantham to past Mistley to Bradfield. So, I am awaiting details back from the EA on their findings. It’s not pleasant though!.
As per a previous notification the club lost another long serving member/sailor Edward Allen. There is a tribute to Ed on the boards. His notification of the funeral was notified to me as quickly as his passing so it may have been missed by some of those that distantly were known to him and his burial was at Woodlands at Wrabness yesterday.
A previous coffee and cake and raised funds were to go to the Wolverstone Project which offers Sailing for those with disabilities, The Picture shows Sue Mather Handing over the proceeds of £65.00 to Dr Angela Colclough one of the organisers behind the project schemes. She did mention that if any of our members who had any spare time as volunteers, they always needed assistance in helping on there sailing days in boat preparation and launching etc There are leaflets in the club with contact details for anyone interested in volunteering their services.
Last weekend saw the first of many water activities. Firstly, the Spring regatta for the micros. Ed Evans says “They all Had a fun weekend with a great day of sailing on Saturday with four races completed, and Sunday being called due to too much wind. 7 boats out across both days and now in the water early for the rest of the schedule. Martin and Jenny Pavey did a great job managing the racing.
Winner was Ed Evans and Ed Roberts, Runner up Rheanna Pavey and Ellie Harvey-Bates”
2nd ly was the shakedown cruise and David Lodge says “Friday the 26th saw the first cruise of the season, heading for Haven Yacht Club at Suffolk Yacht Harbour. 6 vessels took part, Sonic, Antares, Apollo and Sheldrake sailed for Manningtree and Ozzy Owl and Escalon from Titchmarsh. As you might imagine there was a steady flow of beer lubricating a well-deserved meal.
Saturday just Sonic, Antares and Sheldrake venture to Ipswich where the destination was The Lord Nelson, a far more restrained drinking session took place and some very nice meals.
Sunday lived up to its reputation and proved to be a wet and windy return, little sailing from some but a 28 to 30 knot wind on the nose as we came up the Stour.
Good time had by all!
I believe Gus is trying to clear the compound so those that have canoes and vessels in the east compound storage need to get them moved quickly to the west so racks can be re set up in their permanent position again, please assist and arrange where needed.
Richard will be doing the bar again tonight so bring your Brollie down to the club and venture out to sample the Wherry to keep him company while drying out. Quite quiet last week!
